Edinburgh for Couples

Fun for Couples in Edinburgh

Whilst we eagerly await the re-opening of Scotland’s travel industry, we’d like to dedicate a blog post to couples planning Edinburgh getaways for the future. It is after all, the unofficial ‘month of love’. From romantic lazy seaside strolls to action packed explorations, Scotland’s capital city has something for every taste.

Please note: Government guidelines currently prohibit travel in Scotland. A full lockdown is currently being adhered to, with guidance to stay at home, except for essential purposes. As a result, many of the activities listed in this post are currently unavailable and readers should visit individual websites for further information.

Activities in Edinburgh for Couples

Spa treatments at Camomile Sanctuary

Just a stroll away from the Bonham Hotel, Camomile Sanctuary is a distinguished retreat; the perfect place for couples to unwind after a busy day of activities around the city. We love their indulgent body treatments and spa packages.

Pack a picnic for the Royal Botanic Garden

The 350-year-old Royal Botanic Garden hosts over 13,000 plant species from across the globe. Spanning across 72 acres, you’re always guaranteed to find a quiet romantic spot to drop a blanket and tuck into your favourite picnic snacks.

A Boozy Snoozy feast at the Bonham Hotel

The Bonham Hotel’s famous Boozy Snoozy Offer means that you can enjoy a lazy lie in before heading down for a filling 3-course meal. And that’s not all, diners will also enjoy half a bottle of wine per person! Sit back, relax, and while the day a way with our relaxing menu.

Become a Master Chef with the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School

Is the way to your partner’s heart through their stomach? Why not learn some new techniques to take home to your own kitchen with the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School? When in Scotland … sample the local cuisine – their half day & full day classes include a special ‘Cooking with Game’ class. This lean meat is low in cholesterol and a good alternative to your usual red meats.

Days out in Edinburgh for Couples

Edinburgh walking tours

Edinburgh has a walking tour for EVERY occasion! From history and Harry Potter to folklore and freaky facts, our helpful team can help you find one that’s just right for you.

Edinburgh Dungeons & Underground Vault tours

The perfect excuse to snuggle up (or hold on tight) to the one you love! The Edinburgh Dungeons offer rooms full of terrifying tales and re-enactments (including a boat ride!), whilst the Underground Vault tours give you a glimpse into Edinburgh’s underground life during the 17th Century.

Explore the old town and search for the wall of love

You can spend a full day getting lost in the old closes of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Search for the sheltered gardens of Dunbar’s Close, the hidden story behind Paisley Close’s archway and (most importantly) the secret crawling heart wall.

Make like Torvill and Dean at Murrayfield Ice Rink

A spot of rain in Edinburgh is not uncommon. Murrayfield Ice Rink is a brilliant place to take shelter and test your couple coordination.

Sample Scotland’s history at the Whiski Rooms

No experience necessary! Whether you’re a first-time whisky taster, or long-term connoisseur, the Whiski Rooms have a tasting session for everyone. We love how they combine dram tasting with food matching and education – Whisky & Chocolate Tasting anyone?

Things to do at Night in Edinburgh for Couples

Watch the sunset on Arthurs Seat or Calton Hill

Both Calton Hill and Arthurs Seat make spectacular spots to watch the sunset across Scotland’s capital city. Either one offers panoramic views across the city, loved by tourists and locals alike! For an easier (and more central) climb, choose Calton Hill. Arthurs Seat offers a more challenging ascent, but rewards hikers with mind-blowing scenes.

Spend an evening at the Edinburgh Playhouse

The Edinburgh Playhouse is located right at the top of trendy Leith Walk, and many of the surrounding restaurants and bars offer tasty theatre and diner deals. It plays host to all the big-name musicals, as well as popular ballet, comedians and band performances.

Laugh until your sides hurt at The Stand Comedy Club

They say you should find someone that makes you laugh (or at least take your significant other with you to find someone who can!). The Stand Comedy Club offers visitors an entertainment programme 7 days a week, often featuring famous acts and setting the stage for up-and-coming talent. You can even

Party like a Scot at an Edinburgh Ceilidh

Pronounced ‘kay-lee’, a Ceilidh gathering is a wonderful way to experience Scotland’s famous, friendly hospitality for yourself. These sociable events often include live music and dancing and can be found regularly across the city. The Edinburgh Ceilidh Club is a great place to find one that suits your availability.

Day Trips out of Edinburgh

Take a boat tour up the Forth

Where several rivers meet the North Sea on Scotland’s East coast, you’ll find three majestic bridges – one of which (the Forth Bridge) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set aside a half day to step aboard one of the popular 3-bridge tours for some unique sights and fresh sea air. If you’re lucky you might spot a resident grey seal, or even a dolphin!

Portobello Beach

For keen ramblers, a long walk from Edinburgh city centre to Portobello Beach is a pleasant way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and explore its coastal suburbs. The promenade provides visitors with everything you’d expect from a British seaside: ice-cream shops, fish and chips, arcades and lots of fresh coffee. In summer, it’s a popular place for locals to enjoy pink sunsets and warm romantic walks.

Rosslyn Chapel

15th century Rosslyn Chapel is an enchanting structure resting on a wooden hill above Roslin Glen. Although famous in its own right, the chapel saw a boost in tourism after being featured in the Tom Hanks movie, The Da Vinci Code. The chapel’s intricate carvings, links to Mary Magdalene and surrounding trails make it an obvious choice for a day trip outside of Edinburgh.

Are you planning a couple’s trip to Edinburgh (when its allowed)? Conveniently located in a central West End location, The Bonham Hotel allows guests to experience Edinburgh in a luxurious and relaxed setting.
